Akai MPC1000 Manuals

You can download the official Akai MPC1000 manual from the following page on the Akai web site:

The Akai manual tells you what each knob and button does, and goes through the various software functions. What it doesn't do is explain how to use an MPC1000 in 'real world' situations. There are no practical beat making examples, no tutorials, no tricks, no production advice.

If you need  more structured help with your MPC1000, take a look at  'Beat Making on the MPC1000' - 280 pages with 51 step-by-step tutorials, hundreds of clear screenshots, 600 tutorial files to help you recreate all tutorials in real time, and 300 additional loops and samples giving you the complete guide to making fat beats with your MPC!

Akai MPC 1000 Operating Systems

The official Akai MPC 1000 operating system is currently in its second major revision and is a significant improvement over version 1. There's still a few bugs but it's still pretty solid. You can download the latest Akai MPC 1000 operating system here (you'll need to complete a form to get it).

If you've found a bug in your MPC1000, why not add it to our public MPC bug list - all new bugs are verified and then reported by us to Akai.

There's also a third party MPC 1000 operating system available, made by an ex-Akai developer only know as 'JJ'. There are three versions of this JJ OS available:
  • a free version (JJ OS 3.09) which fixes the known bugs in the Akai OS in addition to adding many new features - please read our review of the free JJ OS
  • JJ OS version 1 which basically gives the MPC 1000 a similar OS to the MPC 2500 - this costs $39
  • JJ OS version 2 which brings in a load of new features (although at the expense of dropping some other features). This costs $49, but you must purchase OS1 first.
  • JJ OS 2XL - a complete re-write of the MPC1000 OS introducing incredibly advanced sampling features for the MPC1000.
Should you get the JJ OS(s)? Well, the free version is free and does fix all the Akai bugs, so it's a no-brainer really! In addition, our tutorial book, 'Beat Making on the MPC1000 ' is fully compatible with this version.

The 'paid for' JJ OS's are much more advanced and better suited for users who have already mastered the free OS's (ie. the official Akai or the free JJ OS 3.09).
